The WATER - MINING project aims to develop innovative and energy efficient technologies for urban and industrial wastewater treatment and promotes the production of value-added materials from the waste formed in the treatment processes. The participation of Aguas do Algarve aims to test a demonstration unit at the Faro/Olhão WWTP, which involves the extraction and production of extracellular polymeric substances, alginate type, named KAUMERA, from NEREDA® granules, in order to be introduced in the business market as end products, namely in the production of biostimulants, absorbents and coating of fertilizers for slow release of nutrients.
