The Portuguese Environment Agency, I.P. (APA) through the ARH Algarve has been promoting the "Environmental Volunteering for Water" project since 2009, involving a large group of partners and volunteers. Over the years it has been possible to extend to the whole of the Algarve (1) actions to monitor ecosystems using bioindicators: seagrass, marine macroinvertebrates and benthic macroinvertebrates; (2) actions to monitor marine litter/microplastics; (3) volunteer actions: removal of invasive species, actions to clean up creeks and coastal areas; planting of native species; (4) volunteer camps; (5) environmental education actions in schools; (6) participation in themed weeks (SEIVA) and (7) promotion of themed competitions. Of particular note is the Regional Meeting of Environmental Volunteers for Youth Water (ERVAA Jovem), the activities of which are based on the theme chosen by the school within the framework of the 2030 Agenda/SDGs, and may include games, debates, etc.
