Living Science in the Neighbourhood: promoting scientific and environmental literacy in Bairro do Condado

Polar chart of the good practice's contribution to the 17 SDGs. The radius length corresponds to the relative benefit for each SDG.

Access to scientific and technological knowledge enables a greater and better understanding of the world, the development of critical thinking and informed decision-making by all citizens at all times of life. We should all have the opportunity to be fascinated by scientific discoveries, technological innovation and the wonderful natural world, of which we know so little. Many families do not have regular access to scientific knowledge, and this, for the reasons presented, is a factor of social exclusion. Thus, institutions linked to education, research and the promotion of scientific and technological culture play an important role in democratising access to knowledge, by working together with local associations. This project results from the partnership between Ciência Viva and the Neighbourhood Association of Bairro do Condado - Marvila, to bring science to the neighbourhood, through the promotion of scientific and environmental literacy.
