The population of this area has a strong sense of community, dynamism, organisational capacity and is capable of developing various activities. In order to maximise their potential, the ACDR de Souto Maior was born and with it the construction of a space for community interaction. Various activities were held there, and it was even used as a health centre. Over time, the population grew older, some young people left the area, which led to the gradual withdrawal of the groups that carried out the activities, and the ACDR became inactive. Currently, the new management has seen this programme as an opportunity to reactivate the space for the benefit of the population, contributing to an improvement in their physical, mental and social well-being. Thus, the active participation of the population in this new stage is fundamental, giving them the opportunity to feel valued, participatory and involved in projects, helping to overcome social isolation and loneliness, thus contributing to healthy ageing.
