The project to Enhance the Archaeological and Rural Heritage of Lagos aims to strengthen the municipality's cultural identity and territorial cohesion by creating heritage and cultural routes in the parishes of Bensafrim, Barão de São João and Odiáxere. The initiative includes the creation of the Rural Archaeological Route and the Agricultural Farms Route, promoting the link between archaeological heritage, the countryside and traditional agricultural practices. It also includes the collection, inventorying and documentation of Bensafrim's archaeological heritage, with a special focus on the remains associated with Southwest Writing, one of the oldest manifestations of writing on the Iberian Peninsula. It is also planned to set up an Interpretation Centre dedicated to the material and immaterial heritage of Southwest Writing in Bensafrim, which will function as a space for study, education and cultural enjoyment, combining scientific knowledge, cultural tourism and the enhancement of local communities. This project promotes the preservation of collective memory, heritage education and the diversification of the cultural and tourist offer, valorising endogenous resources and contributing to the sustainable development of rural areas in Lagos.
