Psychology in Schools Programme

The Junta de Freguesia de Santa Maria, São Pedro e Matacães promotes the Psychology in Schools Programme, which offers children in the 1st cycle of the 12 basic schools in the parish psychological assessment and counselling. Due to the high number of requests for counselling, priority is given to situations in which families have socio-economic difficulties. The technical team is made up of a team of psychologists and, as part of a network, collaborates with other entities such as Torres Vedras City Council, the Torres Vedras Child and Youth Protection Commission, the Social Security Institute and the Temporary Shelter Centre, CAT Renascer. The problems addressed and intervened upon include emotional instability, learning difficulties, behavioural problems, violence and bereavement. The intervention is carried out with the child, in weekly face-to-face sessions, in close liaison with the family and the school.
