Arterial hypertension is characterised as a chronic disease that manifests itself through increased pressure levels in the blood vessels, causing the heart to have to work harder to ensure blood circulation. HTN is one of the risk factors that has most contributed to the development of cerebro-cardiovascular diseases, but this risk factor is modifiable.
In the study of this pathology, there are already a number of studies and research projects that reveal that it is a disease that is present on a large scale, affecting a large percentage of the world's population, and that it is present in all social classes and age groups, with a greater predominance in the senior population. It should be noted that in the case of the Portuguese population, the incidence rate of hypertension is 42.2 per cent.
Given that it is such a widespread pathology, its study becomes essential and is an indispensable tool for both health professionals and the general population.
With a view to contributing to greater knowledge and gathering information on the presence of hypertension in the Beira Baixa region, this research project involves monitoring and evaluating a sample of individuals from Beira Baixa.
The type of study is observational, cross-sectional and analytical, and the sample is randomised. Subsequently, individuals aged 18 or over will be assessed through surveys and blood pressure measurements.
