The World Health Organization equates the problem of air pollution with other global health risks such as unhealthy diet and smoking. Recent studies suggest that exposure to environmental pollution is causing seven million premature deaths a year and resulting in the loss of many millions more years of life. The European Environment Agency, on the other hand, estimates that pollution is associated with more than 10% of cancer cases in Europe. GSK, as a science and innovation company in the health sciences, feels a heightened responsibility to respond to the global challenge of climate change.
