Passa a Palavra is a community intervention project focussed on combating poverty and social exclusion. One of the premises of this project is the realisation that there can be no project for the local community without the involvement of the community itself. Our aim is to fulfil the aspirations of the residents resulting from the consultations that have already taken place in the area. Social integration is only possible if basic rights are guaranteed, particularly in the health, social and environmental fields. We consider the project to be innovative due to its participatory methodology, which places the local community as an agent of social change. The resident population in the parish of Trafaria is 5696 individuals (3.27 per cent of the municipality's population). There are two clandestine neighbourhoods (since the 1970s), 1º Torrão and 2º Torrão, where cultural and ethnic diversity is very relevant. These are marginalised neighbourhoods where social intervention responses are practically non-existent.
