The Orquestra Geração replicates the Venezuelan System of Children's and Youth Orchestras in Portugal. Its main aim is to provide social support to children and young people from difficult neighbourhoods, where marginalisation prevails and the family fabric is very fragile, and its aim is to integrate children and young people into society through intensive orchestral practice (ensemble work par excellence), increasing their self-esteem and respect for others, in order to achieve harmonious development of their personalities and combat absenteeism from school, marginalisation and the denaturation of their personalities. The orchestras are funded by the participating local councils, the Gulbenkian Foundation and the National Conservatoire, which is responsible for teaching and administration. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Internal Affairs ensure that all the teachers from the Lisbon and Coimbra metropolitan areas are hired.
