The Tabaqueira Neighbourhood Mini-Forest was planted in April 2024, bringing together more than 40 people to bring it to life. It is part of the SMILE - Sintra Motion & Innovation for Low Emissions project, a living decarbonisation laboratory implemented by the consortium made up of: Sintra City Council, the Aga Khan Foundation, IrRADIARE, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, DST Solar, Innovation Point, CARD4B, Watt-IS and IDNorway. It's a small, dense, biodiverse forest with native plants that will benefit the community by providing food, medicines and natural dyes, as well as the benefits of contact with nature and shade on hot days. This mini-forest is next to a solidarity garden, which works in synergy by serving as a refuge and incubator for pollinators. Around 320m2 have been permeabilised and returned to nature, thus supporting the re-naturalisation of urban areas and the urgent fight against climate change.
