Mini-forest Portuguese Environment Agency - URBEM

#Amadora #Administração do Estado #minifloresta

Mini-forests - inspired by the Miyawaki method - are small biodiverse, resilient spaces with a high social component that aim to promote native biodiversity and contact with nature.

This action has the following objectives:

  • promote local biodiversity through the use of native species;
  • promote contact with nature for the APA community by planting and looking after the space;
  • create an audio and visual barrier to the motorway.

The location chosen for the mini-forest was based on 4 factors: 1) proximity to other green facilities already present, such as the community gardens; 2) the shade provided by the trees present, which will be beneficial to the plants' survival in the first few years; 3) the possibility of creating a green continuum between the gardens and the mini-forest; and 4) availability of water.

Support: Amadora Town Council; Valorsul; Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests.
