Madhouse

Manicómio is a space for artistic creation and innovation in Lisbon. With multiple projects that intersect art, creativity, social transformation and mental health, at the centre of the project are contemporary and creative artists with mental illness who are excluded due to our society's stigma towards madness. We have the following activities: - The first raw and contemporary art studio and gallery in Portugal, with 10 resident artists, where they offer freedom and artistic representation and agency in sales, exhibitions and collaborations; - The Consultas sem Paredes (Consultations without Walls) project, a network of centres for mental health technicians, with psychiatry, psychology and psychotherapy consultations in unexpected and artistic spaces, to improve access to mental health services; - We the Mad: experimental design studios in psychiatric units across the country, with training in innovation in mental health and recovery and human rights for workers in these centres;
