1st Edition MAR Shopping Algarve's "Beach Cleaning" project held its first edition in May 2021 at Faro Beach / Ria Formosa, Faro, with the support of public and private organisations and numerous volunteers. It emphasised concern about environmental damage and the impact on the ocean. The initiative involved partnerships with various organisations such as the Portuguese Environment Agency, Faro City Council and the ICNF, culminating in a workshop on microplastics. This initiative shows positive results, including 15 partners, 120 volunteers, an average recycling rate of 40% and the collection of 11,400kg of rubbish.
