The UAlg Hippocampus seahorse itinerary aims to sow a desire to learn more about underwater biodiversity, its threats and ways of protecting it through art and physical activity. Anchored in the interdisciplinary nature of UAlg, the municipality of Faro and the communities surrounding the Ria Formosa, this project brings together artists, sportspeople and scientists (e.g. CCMAR Jorge Palma) around the preservation of an iconic species and its habitat, seagrass, a nursery for many other species and an important CO2 sink. In this reinvented place, citizens can walk the route all year round, guided by QR codes, in an attitude of reconciliation with the rights of nature, appreciating the beautiful and sustainable in the spirit of the European New-Bauhaus. Every year, the new UAlg students are invited to take this 8 kilometre route along the Ria Formosa, accompanied by researchers, with pieces of art by Bordalo II from the Big trash collection.
