Neighbourhood Watch - E9G

The project is taking place in the Cova das Faias social neighbourhood in Leiria. It's a peripheral neighbourhood next to an industrial area, mostly inhabited by gypsies. The school reports situations of non-compliance with rules, difficulty in honouring commitments and poor participation by children and their families in the various educational activities. In turn, the school is not always able to promote the academic success of these children and the valorisation of their culture, which is reflected in the career paths of young people and adults. The problems identified in the area are: school absenteeism, failure and dropout, with an impact on the 2nd, 3rd and secondary cycles; low schooling and low professional qualifications for young people and adults; the existence of NEETs and/or young people with career paths often characterised by unemployment, worklessness and/or the choice of precarious and seasonal activities. The project's focus is on children and young people aged 6 to 25 and it favours actions that promote access to educational, health and employment opportunities, as well as the development of school, social, personal, artistic and sporting skills.
