In Portugal, in general, the use of environmental sustainability indicators in local territorial planning is weak. Although the use of environmental discourse in planning processes and the drafting of documents is evident, the actual expression of environmental indicators is much lower than that of social or economic indicators. Territorial planning practices thus tend to favour dimensions that induce the perception of a more immediate "return", i.e. in direct economic terms or in social values.
Establish the sharing of experiences and practices with regard to sustainable land management in an environmentally responsible and socially just manner;
Strengthen an up-to-date theoretical framework in the light of current knowledge with a view to translating it into consolidated and effective practices, based on shared experiences;
Encourage dialogue between educators and environmental and territorial professionals in their work to train citizens who are aware of environmental issues with a territorial expression.
