The Festa da Espiga began in 1968 with the then president of the parish council, José Viegas Gregório, and is celebrated annually on Ascension Thursday (Espiga Day). The main objective of the Festa da Espiga is to represent the uses, customs and traditions of the interior of the Algarve, providing an ethnographic parade that demonstrates all the activities that have been the economic support for many decades. The festival is organised with the active participation of the entire population of the parish. Those who visit the Festa da Espiga will find plenty of gastronomy, folklore, handicrafts, entertainment and culture.
