The School of Mothers is a project run by Ajuda de Mãe that aims to prevent pregnant women/teenage mothers from dropping out of school by reconciling school progress with positive and healthy parenting.
Many young women from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds become pregnant or have a newborn baby, and for this reason drop out of school or interrupt their studies due to a lack of family support or the impossibility of leaving their babies in someone's care. At the same time, they are young mothers who need help to look after their children and continue to experience the developmental phase they are going through - adolescence - in a healthy way.
The Mothers' School allows young mothers to attend regular education in distance learning mode, via an e-learning platform. At the same time, the teenagers learn to look after their baby in the Baby Room, receive social and psychological counselling and, during the school holidays, take part in recreational, sporting and cultural activities and experiences that they don't normally have access to, essentially promoting their personal, social and parental development, group relationships and the mother-baby relationship.
