Iberian Wolf Recovery Centre

It is in the Municipality of Mafra that wolves can be observed in unique conditions, from observation towers situated at strategic points, with a panoramic view of the different enclosures of the Iberian Wolf Recovery Centre (CRLI), in Quinta da Murta, Gradil.

Since 1987, this has been the centre of reference for housing all wolves that cannot live in the wild in 17 hectares of wooded valley. As well as providing them with the best care, the CRLI offers scientific studies, especially in the area of social behaviour, with the main aim of informing the public about the true nature of the wolf.

A menacing figure in children's stories, the wolf is actually an extraordinary and vulnerable animal that can be symbolically adopted by individuals or companies at this sanctuary.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the canis lupus signatus occupied practically the entire Iberian peninsula. Today, it's up to us (the people most responsible for its near extinction) to fight for the species to find its place again and thrive in its natural habitat.

The Iberian Wolf Recovery Centre welcomes wolves from Portugal and all over Europe.
