The Óbidos Lagoon Interpretation Centre was a project proposed by the City Council - Association for Citizenship as part of the Portugal Participatory Budget with the aim of creating and making available to visitors a set of information tools to support the interpretation of the site and its history of relationship with local communities, while at the same time contributing to the protection, enhancement and transmission of the local natural and cultural heritage to future generations. Its installation was coordinated by LPN, through funding provided by FCT and the Ciência Viva Programme, in partnership with the municipalities of Caldas da Rainha and Óbidos and the City Council. The centre has themed information panels in Portuguese and English, an exhibition of fishing gear and photographs of local species, a tourist office (during the bathing season), a digital space with a detailed interactive map of Óbidos Lagoon and an outdoor space used for environmental education activities. Since 2024, CILO has run an annual educational service and has been awarded the "Blue Centre" distinction by the Blue Flag Environment and Education Association.
