The Associação Educativa e Recreativa de Góis (AERG) is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to promote the educational, cultural, sporting and social development of the local community, especially among the younger generation. Founded on 1 September 1939 with the aim of boosting community life in the municipality of Góis, the AERG has, over the years, been a fundamental pillar in promoting associations, active citizenship and a spirit of solidarity.
The association carries out its activities through various sections that cover various areas of collective interest, including:
- Philharmonic: maintains a regular activity, taking part in religious festivals, concerts and events of municipal and regional interest. It includes a Music School that trains new players, ensuring the continuity of the band and contributing to the cultural development of the community and the preservation of Góis' philharmonic tradition;
- Mixed Choir: promotes choral music in the community, bringing together female and male voices. It performs at cultural, religious and festive events, contributing to the valorisation of the local musical heritage and the cultural enrichment of the municipality of Góis;
- Football: promotes sporting, social and personal development, especially among young people. It has training and senior teams that take part in official competitions and friendly matches, valuing team spirit, discipline, respect and inclusion;
- Judo: promotes the practice of this martial art as a means of physical, mental and social development. Aimed at children, young people and adults, it offers technical training and competitive accompaniment, valuing respect, discipline and sportsmanship. The section takes part in regional and national tournaments, contributing to the projection of the municipality of Góis in sport;
- Trail: promotes trail running as a form of well-being, overcoming obstacles and contact with nature. It takes part in competitions and organises activities, such as the GóisTrail with two editions, which enhance sport and the natural heritage of Góis.
