The Municipality of Viana do Castelo, in partnership with ULSAM, E.P.E., is promoting Aquatic Birth Preparation Classes in the municipal swimming pools, organised by the Barroselas Community Care Unit (UCC) and the Viana do Castelo Community Care Unit (UCC). These classes, which are part of the Childbirth and Parenthood Preparation Course, aim to give pregnant women/couples the power of decision and autonomy, to acquire greater security and to be active participants in childbirth. Preparing for childbirth in an aquatic environment allows for a new dynamic of education for parents and provides a favourable environment for learning, allied to the promotion of a healthy pregnancy and first years of life. Due to its buoyancy and temperature, water provides a feeling of well-being and relaxation, and allows pregnant women and couples to feel lighter and more free to move.
