The Seixal Municipal Kennel was created in 1992 and became the first Kennel/Gatil in the Setúbal district in 2003. In early 2017, the Seixal Municipal Kennel/Gatil was licensed by the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary (DGAV) as the Seixal Official Collection Centre for Companion Animals (CROACS).

The CROACS is responsible for complying with the legal competences in force assigned to the "Official Collection Centres for Companion Animals", as well as carrying out medical and health prophylaxis actions determined exclusively by the Competent Health Authorities. However, it may not carry out any veterinary medical functions that disrespect either the legislation in force or the provisions of the Veterinary Medical Code of Ethics or that indicate unfair competition practices.
