The Porto Pim Whale Factory Museum, with the theme From Hunting to Conservation - a journey from whaling to the present day, is aimed primarily at tourists visiting Faial and is one of the most popular places to visit on the island, welcoming an average of 12,000 visitors every year. In 2023, the permanent exhibition underwent a major renovation in an effort to improve the visitor experience. Today, visitors will find a testimony to the Azorean whaling industry, essential to their historical, economic and social understanding. Starting with American whaling, the exhibition follows the story to the present day, highlighting the importance of ocean conservation, with a special focus on the species hunted in the Azores - the Sperm Whale. In order to preserve, you need to know, and we are committed to training informed and active citizens in the defence and preservation of the Azores' marine ecosystems!
